Look out Calvin Klein!
Up until today, Jonas has refused to wear underwear. We've tried all of those sneaky parent angles- you know- encouraging him to be like his big cousin, high praise for how handsome they are, buying the favorite characters, downright bribery (wear the undies and get a sticker!) None of it has worked.
"No Mama!" he insists, "New diapee!"
So, imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning feeling all gung-ho about the potty training, and figuring it was a good time, since I have a the next few days off work, the holidays are over, and we have nothing else to do and nowhere to be, and he chose to wear his Thomas underwear!
Yay!
So, we've run to the potty religiously every 20 minutes today. It's nearly 1 pm, and we've only had one accident!
And isn't he handsome and oh so big boyish?! Look at him, striking the Austin Powers pose and everything. :)
All you young ladies watch out! He'll be available in about 30 years.

It looks like he's covering up his bum and saying "No, Mama! Don't take a picture!"
LOL.
Potty training already? Man, my sister has just recently started training my nephew (who will be 18 months at the end of January) I can't say I agree with her starting so young, but he is going in the pot. She's just not very consistent about it (maybe twice a day?) so I dont even know if it would be worth it. J's what? 27 months? It seems about right, Anthony will probably just be getting into it around that age as well. :)
I must say he looks like such a cutie in his big boy underwear. ;)
Ahh, the days of potty training. Two steps forward, one step back. I remember well the days of stubborn ZimDee, whom I never thought would give up the diapers. If he can do it, anyone can. Now I just have to look forward to the days when it's my little Sproutie's turn.
Good luck to you and Jonas. Consistency is the key. I have faith in both of you.
Thanks for the encouragement, Katrina. We're in no hurry to get him trained, and I'm not going to push him on it. By 8 last night we were back in diapers because I could tell that he just wasn't having fun with it anymore. But he did good all day.
Eve, Jonas didn't even have an interest in the potty until he was closer to 2, and even then, it was fleeting. But every kid is different. I honestly don't think that an 18 month old has the physical ability to be successfully potty trained, but it's not bad practice to show him how it works.
You're still using cloth diapers, right? I think that will help in the training department. They aren't as absorbent as the disposables, therefore Anthony will feel uncomfortable in a wet diaper faster than J does. Uncomfortable means quicker to do something about it.
Yep, still in cloth. I've heard great things about cloth as far as potty training goes as well. As in they can feel the wetness and link it up to their physical feelings just before they go -quicker than if they wear disposables. We shall see though. Like you, I'm in no rush. I've seen what happens when kids get pushed to do things they're not ready to do (my younger brothers) and it ends up taking longer than if they were allowed to wait until they were ready.
Speaking of giving things up, did I ever tell you Anthony doesn't suck his thumb anymore? He hasn't sucked if for awhile now... I think he gave it up back in October. :)
Very cool on the thumb! I swore that J would take his bobo to college with him, but when he was ready he gave it up without much argument.
Funny enough, we were looking for something that fell under the car seat yesterday and found a stray one under there. The minute he saw it, he wanted it. Fortunately, we were able to talk him out of it. *crisis averted!*
