A backpack and a box
I finished up the little backpack I was making for J-man this afternoon. It's essentially just a little drawstring bag with a strap sewn to the back. Nothing fancy at all. I'm not a big fan of the straps either. I think that if I were to make this again I'd switch to a smaller set of needles to make them, and perhaps decrease the number of stitches in each row. They just seem too wide for such a small bag.
Here it is, just sitting on the desk.
And since Jonas wasn't willing to be a model, I put the teletubbies to use. The little Po doll that's in the bag is about 9 inches tall, for scale.
And here's a picture that I shared with Laura earlier this weekend. Jonas delights in a box ride with Daddy. Of course, notice the fancy wagon in the background. I guess that goes to show that you don't have to spend a ton of money to make your kids happy, eh?
I also started working on a Candle Flame Shawl. My sister in law found this pattern and is making one for my grandmother. It's so beautiful I couldn't resist trying it myself. I'm making mine for the mother in law. Her birthday is in April. Hopefully I'll be able to accomplish this by then. Amanda, hope you don't mind my link, and my jumping on board with this one.

I absolutely can NOT knit, crochet or any of that - I did cross stitch for a while until I figured out that I just don't have the patience for it, but if I could knot, I'd be working on that cand;e flame shawl too, it's gorgeous!
I too, love that shawl. So purty. I wonder if it could be done with really this delicate yarn in crimson and orange and look like a spidery flame? Hrmm.
Maybe we'll have to try to squeeze in a crash course in knitting. :) Oh and the backpack is awesome, even on a teletubby.
The little backpack is so cute! And I love that the Teletubbies are coming in handy as models. :)
How are you liking the candle flame stitch? It gets easier (more logical?) once you get past the first three, then you just keep doing a ten row repeat. (It took me about 8 inches to "get" the pattern and now it goes even more quickly! Unfortunately, the number of stitches also keeps getting bigger. *grimace*
Erin, I used to do cross stitch, too, but you're right, it takes a lot of patience, and I just found myself considering it more of a chore than a hobby.
Knitting is much easier in that you can pick it up and set it down without as much fuss. And it's more transportable. :)
Still, it does take concentration, which I don't get much of, unless J's sleeping. So I knit in hour increments. It's addictive, and it probably also helps that I only get to do it in hour or less increments.
Amanda, at least Teletubbies are good for something. Jonas hates them! So far I'm loving the pattern, but I'm only about 15 rows into it. As I said above, getting stuff done revolves around naps. Oh, tell me the knitting envy goes away as they get older! Jonas will come over and grab the needles and try to stuff them back in my bag. He wants full attention at all times.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my site today! And I look forward to visiting you again as well. Have a beautiful week!!!
The shawl is gorgeous! Good luck with that. I think the knapsack turned out very well. I'm proud of you. I hope the J does it justice.
I personally preferred crocheting becuase you get faster results. Of course, results don't matter when you don't pick up a hook in several years! I admire your persistence.
Vickie, good to see you around the blogosphere again. I've been wondering where you've been hiding. Hope that things are ok for you, and that you'll be back to your own blog soon.
I've never tried crochet, so I have no idea how much faster it is. I'm sure that if you started again, you'd be back to your old pro self in no time.
